A Museum Quality Art Print of Site's Homestead at Seneca Rocks a Back View for sale by Brandywine General Store. The Sites homestead was built by Jacob Sites around 1839 at the base of the famous Seneca Rocks. This home was also known as the Wayside or Sites Inn. The original log home or inn was expanded in the 1870s with a frame addition. This building remained in the Site's family until it and all of Seneca Rocks was acquired by the United States Forest Service in 1968 and became part of the Spruce Knob - Seneca Rocks National Recreation area in the Monongahela National Forest. The house had not been lived in for years and had been used as a storage shed, however it was restored by the Forest Service and is now part of the Seneca Rocks Discovery Center. This scenic landscape shows the back of the house as it most likely appeared in the last 19th century. The clapboard siding is painted gray and the original rock chimney or flue is still standing at the end. All along the edge of the yard runs a chestnut split rail fence, which would have kept the livestock out of the gardens of the home. Picture #294 an original scenic landscape by Brandywine General Store.
