Gold Shining on WV Capitol Rotunda Art Print
A Museum Quality Art Print of Gold Shining on the WV Capitol Rotunda for sale by Brandywine General Store. This scenic landscape shows the top of the rotunda with its gold plated dome shining in the bright sun and all under a blue sky. The dome of this beautiful capitol building was originally gilded by the Mack, Jenney and Tyler Company in 1931. It is 75 feet in diameter and has over the years caught a lot of air pollution and other types of damage. In the 1970s the state in an effort to save money had the dome painted gold instead of actually putting on gold plate. In the 80s another attempt to restore an actual gold leaf was tried, but due to weather conditions, the gilding didn't stick very well and unsightly stains occurred. Finally in 2005 the state got it right again and had the dome restored to its original grandeur as envisioned by Cass Gilbert, the architect. Public opinion in the Mountain State strongly favored restoring this gold dome instead of trying half way gimmicks. Picture #398 an original photographic print by Brandywine General Store.
