Lake Otesaga at Cooperstown Art Print
A premium quality art print of Lake Otesaga at Cooperstown New York for sale by Brandywine General Store. This lake is nine miles long and narrow the whole length, it is geologically related to the Finger Lakes but is not actually classified as one. This huge pristine lake is the source of the Susquehanna River and the baseball town of Cooperstown New York is at the Southern End of the waters. The lake was known as Glimmerglass to James Fenimore Cooper and was a principal feature in some of his novels, including The Pioneers and The Deer Slayer. Hyde Hall, a mansion that was probably the largest in the United States at the time of its construction in 1817 overlooks the lake. Otesaga is the Iroquois word for Meeting Place. The scene shows a narrow piece of land jutting into the lake upon which is a couple large trees including a hardwood and a nice green evergreen tree. This is early morning with the sun not quite yet shining. The picture clearly shows how pristine and clear the waters of this lake are. Picture #828 an original, archival photographic print
