Rail Fence and Hemlock Trees along Country Road Art Print
A Museum Quality Art Print of a Rail Fence and Hemlock Trees Along a Country Road for sale by Brandywine General Store.. This scenic landscape was shot along a country road in rural West Virginia in the Allegheny Highland section of the Mountain State. This print has two items that are fast disappearing from the country landscape, the rail fence and the hemlock tree. The rail fencing were made from chestnut rails from the early part of the 20th century and the latter part of the 19th century. When the chestnut blight hit the United States, a lot of the dying trees were put to use as rail fencing. Chestnut lumber is very durable as evidenced by the rail fence, they are now all over 100 years old and some still exist even though it is not common anymore to find this fencing along the country's highways. Another once mighty tree of the forest, the hemlock, is now dying out like the chestnut a century before it, A worm borer has invaded this species and killing them all over the Appalachian Mountains, soon these trees will be about extinct like the Chestnut. So for one money, you can buy a print of two almost extinct items, quite a bargain. Picture #255 an original scenic landscape by Brandywine General Store.
