This oil on canvas was completed in 1922 and was sold by Christies of London in 2009 for the estate of Mary Spencer Watson, daughter of the artist, for a total of 245,000.00 against an estimate of 160,000 to 240,000.00. This was the work that secured Watson's longed for election as an associate of the Royal Academy in 1923. This is a portrait of the artist's family and is a tribute to the happy domestic life the family enjoyed on the Isle of Purbeck at Dunshay Manor. The family is depicted walking across the Studland Heath with the famous Old Harry Rocks being seen to the left in the picture. The father is pulling a great white horse upon which sets his daughter, the wife is walking beside the horse while the Hound is bringing up the rear. This work was a tribute to simpler times, a celebration of sun, sea and fresh air after the horrors of World War I. Famous artists print #38
