This illustrated map is in full color with the city walls and moat showing, as well as an index which gives name to the most important buildings and places in the city during the early part of the 17th century. Gouda is located in the western Netherlands in the province of South Holland. It is most famous for its gouda cheese, which isn't actually made in Gouda but in the surrounding country sides with Gouda serving as the market place for this world renowned cheese. Other famous tourist attractions include the Old City Hall at Market Square which was built between 1448 and 1450 and is one of the oldest Gothic city halls in the Netherlands. The Great or Saint John Church is also another famous Gouda attraction, which is the longest Church in the Netherlands, famous for its stained glass windows which were made between 1530 and 1603 and is considered one of the finest collections of stained glass in the country. The weigh house, another attraction, is a National Monument, this was a building that was used for weighing goods, especially the cheeses so the city could levy taxes on the produce. Picture #22
