The color is a mustard yellow with white lettering, the full state name and date are both located at the top, while the state slogan "Great Lake State" appears at the bottom. This was the first year for Michigan's new registration system on their license plates which utilized 3 letters followed by 3 numbers. The old county numbering system was fast running out of numbers because almost 5 million license plates were issued during 1970. Even though this is just a single tag, it would go great in any Michigan license plate collection or birth year run set.
