Alton NH Jones and Sawyer set of 4 Obsolete Change Notes 1862
A set of four Alton New Hampshire obsolete change notes issued by Jones and Sawyer during the Civil War in 1862 for sale by Brandywine General Store. The obsolete money set consists of 4 different nicely matched bills consisting of the five, ten, twenty five and fifty cents notes, they measure around 2 by 3 1/2 inches each. The bills were payable in current bank bills in sums of one dollar or more at Jones and Sawyer's place of business. Stores were forced to resort to these paper change notes because of a scarcity of coinage during the Civil War. Our estimation of condition would average around very fine. The pictures show the fronts and backs of the actual Alton NH Jones and Sawyer change notes that are for sale so you can better judge the condition yourself.
