This sign is a welcome sight for hikers of the Appalachian Trail as it is a steep 6643 foot climb to get to this point. When you are at the top, then you get to go downhill for quite a ways. This is a dual sign, one is for the Clingmans Dome Tower Trail and the other sign for the Appalachian Trail gives dual directions. To the left is Double Springs Gap Shelter which is 2.6 miles and to the right is the Mount Collins Shelter which is 3.9 miles away. The Mount Collins Shelter is located along the Sugarland Mountain Trail, a half-mile north of the Appalachian Trail junction. A good souvenir for the hikers of the Appalachian Trail.
