Bard James - Towboat John Birkbeck Folk Art Print
An archival premium quality folk art Print of Towboat John Birkbeck by James Bard for sale by Brandywine General Store. The folk artist painted this oil on canvas in the year 1854. The scene shows the towboat "John Birkbeck sailing down the river, it has a full head of steam, powering up for it's first job. This was probably the christening of this fine boat, many well dressed gentlemen are on deck, probably the owner and some of his friends that he invited to go along on this maiden voyage. A flag is flying overhead with the name with a large banner flying behind it. Edgar William and Bernice Chrysler Garbisch purchased this artwork in 1951 and gifted it to the National Gallery of Art in 1971 where it still resides today. Folk art print #40
