Battle of Opequon Creek or Winchester Civil War Fine Art Print
An archival premium Quality art print of the Civil War Battle of Opequon Creek or Winchester, fought September 19, 1864 for sale by Brandywine General Store. Winchester was almost a border town in the northern part of the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, this was the 3rd battle in Winchester due to its proximity to Union ground. Jubal A. Early led the Confederate Soldiers, they had been raiding the B&O Railroad, the Northern troops, led by Phillip H. Sheridan, met up with them at Opequon Creek, which is just outside of Winchester. After winning the prior two battles in Winchester, the Confederate Army lost this battle and this was the turning point of the Shenandoah campaign in favor of the North and of course the downfall of the CSA. The Shenandoah Valley of Virginia was the breadbasket of the Confederacy, so when it was lost, the south was about finished. One interesting confederate soldier killed in the Battle of Opequon was George S. Patton Sr, who was the grandfather of George S. Patton Jr, the famous United States General during World War II.
