The original size of the oil on canvas was 20.9 by 15.6 inches and now hangs in the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia. Cezanne was born at Aix - en - Provence in the South of France in 1839, so he was around 33 years old when this portrait was finished. The artist studied law in his early years but he also attended drawing classes. Despite fierce resistance from his father, he decided on an artistic career as a painter instead of law.
