Corporal Samuel H. Overton VA Infantry Art Print

An archival premium Quality Art Print of a Southern Soldier, Corporal Samuel H. Overton for sale by Brandywine General Store. Overton served in A Company, 44th Virginia Infantry Regiment, 20th Battalion Virginia Heavy Artillery Regiment. This portrait shows Corporal Overton in his Confederate Uniform and Kepi with a bayoneted musket. This Southern Soldier was born in 1833, lived in Appomattox Virginia and was a tobacconist by trade. He enlisted in the CSA Army on May 19, 1861 as a Corporal, on December 28, 1861 he was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant, March 27, 1862 to 1st Lieutenant and on May 09, 1863 he received a promotion to Captain. Captain Overton was wounded at Sailor's Creek, VA with a wound to the flesh of the upper leg on April 06, 1865 and on this same day he was also taken prisoner by the Union Army. He was later released after taking the oath to the US, so the days of the Appomattox Invincibles and 44th Virginia Infantry Regiment were over. The original picture was a hand colored ambrotype tintype, we have done a lot of cleanup to the original and taken the frame out of the scene to make it look like a standing portrait of the Captain. Even though we got this print looking 80% better there are still flaws. If you are interested in the Civil War or the Virginia Infantry groups this print would be an excellent addition to your collection. You could frame this in an antique frame of the era, this is especially good to do if you had an ancestor who fought in these regiments along with Corporal Overton for the Confederate States of America.
