Cowslip American Botanical Art Print
An archival premium Quality Art Print of the American Cowslip as drawn by Curtis for his popular botanical magazine in 1787 for sale by Brandywine General Store. The artist features the flower in full purple bloom with the tall stalk being cut off so the proportion will fit onto the page. Curtis describes the American Cowslip thus "This plant grows spontaneously in Virginia and other parts of North America, which was sent to London by Mr. Bannister to Dr. Compton, Lord Bishop of London, around the year 1709. It flowers in the beginning of May, the seeds ripen in July, soon after the stalks and leaves decay and the roots remain inactive until the following spring. It is propagated by offsets, which the roots put out freely when they are in a loose moist soil and a shady situation." Dodecatheon Meadia. Botanical art print #56
