An archival premium Quality Art Print of Alexander III of Scotland rescued from The Fury of a Stag by the Intrepidity of Colin Fitzgerald or more simply known as The Death of the Stag by Benjamin West. This oil on canvas was painted by the artist in 1786 and how hangs in the National Galleries of Scotland. This is a very large artwork, measuring 144 by 205 inches in size. This painting admirably represents West's heroic and monumental style. The scene illustrates the legend in which the first Chieftain of the Clan Mackenzie saving the life of the Scottish King, Alexander III. Colin Fitzgerald is about to spear a fierce stag who is attacking the Scottish King during a hunting expedition. Francis Humberston Mackenzie became Chieftain of the Mackenzie Clan in 1783 and he commissioned this painting to commemorate his illustrious ancestor.
