Durrie George Henry - Winter in New England art print
An archival premium Quality art Print of Winter in New England by George Henry Durrie for sale by Brandywine General Store. This oil on board was painted by the artist in 1852 with the original size being 19 by 25 inches and now resides at the New Britain Museum of Art. The scene shows an old barn with a horse pulled sleigh setting by the side, two men are walking around the barn, one is on horseback. They are probably trying to figure out the best way to feed the animals during this winter storm. In the distance you can see the farmhouse plus another large barn. A beautiful waterfall is the center of attention in the forefront of the painting, the whole scene is covered in a thick layer of snow. Durrie was well known for his paintings of farm scenes with his specialty being snowy scenes such as this picture. He lived most of his life in New Haven Connecticut. In 1861 Currier and Ives greatly helped the career of this artist by publishing two of his artworks, namely Winter Scene painted in 1858 and Farmyard In Winter. These famous lithographers also published more paintings by Durrie after his early death in 1863. Country Decor art print #122
