SKU: 06 old masters

An archival premium Quality Art Print of The Blue Boy which was painted by Thomas Gainesborough in the year 1770 for sale by Brandywine General Store. The boy in the painting is thought to be Jonathon Buttall, the son of a wealthy hardware merchant, but this has never been definitely proven, even though this art was in the possession of Buttall until he filed for bankruptcy in 1796. In 1921 The Blue Boy left England amid much uproar and came to the United States when bought by wealthy American Railway pioneer, Henry Edwards Huntington. Huntington paid the princely sum of 728,000.00 which at that time was a world record for money paid for any art. The Blue Boy was a very large portrait, the original measuring 48" by 70" and it now resides in the Huntington Library in San Marion, CA. Old Masters art print #06
