This portrait of the future President Grant, by Norwegian Born Ole Peter Hansen Balling, shows the Union's most celebrated General at Vicksburg, the site of his great triumph of 1863. But in truth, Balling had his first sittings with General Grant more than a year after this battle in Washington DC.
