Hardy, Frederick Daniel - The Volunteers Art Print
An archival premium Quality Art Print of The Volunteers by Frederick Daniel Hardy for sale by Brandywine General Store. This oil on panel was completed by the artist in 1860 with the original size being 24 1/2 by 43 1/2 inches. This comical scene shows a group of six children playing in their old cottage in front of their parents and grandparents. It looks as if the children are putting on a show for their father who is a real soldier and has probably just returned home on leave. One child is beating a drum and marching while a boy wearing a busby in marching in step behind her with a broom over his shoulder. The baby of the family is setting on the Father's lap playing with a ribbon that is on his bright red uniform. The mother is in the corner rolling out dough getting ready to make what might be an apple pie and the grandparents are watching this evening's entertainment from the front of the huge fireplace. The cat however, has had enough and has retreated up the stairs away from all this noise and commotion. Skittle pins and steel marbles are also on the floor as the children had been playing those games before deciding to put on a show for Dad. Country decor print #182
