Homer, Winslow - Rainy Day in Camp Civil War Art Print
An archival premium Quality Art Print of Rainy Day in Camp by Winslow Homer painted in 1871 for sale by Brandywine General Store. This Winslow Civil War art is also sometimes known as Camp Near Yorktown. This was Homer's last painting of a major scene of Life at the Front during the Civil War. It was painted six years after the war's end, using studies that Winslow made at the siege of Yorktown in April and May of 1862. The red cloverleaf on the wooden barrel was the insignia of the First Division of the 2nd Corps of the Sixty First New York Volunteer Infantry. Homer was assigned to this unit during the war as a correspondent and artist. The scraggly mule on the right shows how hard conditions were at Yorktown during this difficult time. The original size of this oil on canvas in the realism style is 20 by 36 inches and now resides at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This painting was bought by William F. Milton in 1871, probably from the artist, then at his death in 1905 it was passed on to his wife, who in turn donated the picture in 1923 to the Met. Civil War art print #28
