Lincoln Abraham - Portrait by George Peter Healy Fine Art Print
An archival premium Quality art Print of President Abraham Lincoln by George Peter Healy for sale by Brandywine General Store. Lincoln had posed for Healy in 1864, but the work was not completed before Lincoln was assassinated in 1865. After the assassination the artist, George Peter Alexander Healy, conceived of a painting called The Peacemakers which he completed in 1868. This painting depicts the historic March 28, 1865 strategy session of the Union high command which was composed of William Tecumseh Sherman, Ulysses S. Grant, David Dixon Porter and of course, the President, Abraham Lincoln. This meeting took place on the steamboat The River Queen in the waning days of the Civil War, probably discussing how to handle the South after the War's end. It was evident at this time that the Northern Army was going to be successful in defeating the Confederate forces in the American Civil War. A year after the artist painted The Peacemakers, he decided to take out the rest of the Union high command and make a portrait of President Lincoln by himself. Lincoln's son, Robert Todd Lincoln, bought this painting saying "I have never seen a portrait of my father which is to be compared with it an any way". The portrait was given to the White House at the bequest of Robert Todd Lincoln's wife in 1939 and it now hangs in the State Dining Room of the White House. The original oil on canvas is life sized measuring 73.7 by 55.6 inches in size. Famous people art print #14
