Our archival civil war print features a frontal view of the monument with some late fall trees in the background. The 44th NY monument, located on Little Round Top, was raised as a memorial to Ephraim Elmer Ellsworth who was the 1st Union officer killed during the Battle of Gettysburg. Dedicated in Gettysburg National Military Park on July 3, 1893 at a cost of around 11,000.00 it is the most costly and probably most famous of all the regimental monuments on the battlefield.
