Richmond VA Bank of the Commonwealth $2.50 obsolete currency 1862
A two and half dollar obsolete currency bill issued by the Bank of the Commonwealth in Richmond Virginia during the Civil War on June 04 1862 for sale by Brandywine General Store. This is a simple typeset obsolete note in an odd denomination that would have been used in the South during the Civil War, this example is on TCC & Co watermarked paper. In the VA reference book on obsolete currency this $2.50 bill is rated on the rarity scale at R2 which means 100 to 199 examples are thought to still exist today. The book doesn't break down the difference between the plain paper bills and the ones with the watermarked paper, but usually watermarked bills are more scarce than ones on plain paper. Our estimation of condition to be used as a reference only is extra fine. The pictures show the front and back of the actual Richmond Virginia obsolete currency that is for sale.
