An archival premium Quality art Print of A Farrier Shoeing a Plough Horse by Edward Robert Smythe for sale by Brandywine General Store. The size of this original oil on canvas measures 24 by 36 inches and was recently sold by Bonhams for 11,555.00. The scene shows a blacksmith shop with the farrier shoeing the plow horse. On the right side is the brick flue in which the smithy would heat the iron horseshoes so he could bend them to fit the horse's hoof, the bellows were beside the flue, these were used to make the fire extra hot so it would be warm enough to heat the iron so it could be bent some on the anvil which is also beside the brick fireplace. On the left is the work table with the vice where the blacksmith would put the hot shoe to do the bending and also a grinder to grind off the excess pieces of metal. He has already done all these steps because the farrier has the horse's hoof up and is nailing the shoe on. He has his farrier's tool box on the floor beside him, this is where he kept his tongs, nails, pullers and other tools necessary for the trade. It looks like the donkey is next in line to be fitted with a brand new pair of shoes. Country Decor art print #129
