The artist painted this oil on canvas in Arles in Provence, Van Gogh moved here in February 1888 and at this location he painted at a frenetic pace, doing over 200 different canvas's in 15 months despite several serious spells of depression. Van Gogh wrote of this painting "I have just finished painting, to put in my bedroom, a memory of the garden at Etten". Provence provoked memories of Van Gogh's hometown in Holland. The original of this oil on canvas now hangs in the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg. Famous artists print #81
