Van Gogh Vincent - Portrait of Madame Roulin Art Print
An archival premium Quality art print of the Portrait of Madame Roulin painted by Dutch Impressionist artist Vincent Van Gogh in March 1888 at Arles, France for sale by Brandywine General Store. Van Gogh painted four pictures similar to this one of Madame Roulin rocking the baby in the cradle. The artist painted numerous paintings of the Roulin family, he wanted to make sure that each family member would have at least one portrait that they would like and keep. This series of paintings were called "La Berceuse" meaning our lullaby or the woman rocking the cradle. Madame Roulin has the rope in her hands so that when she rocks in her rocking chair, the cradle will rock the baby at the same time. Van Gogh and Mr Roulin became close friends while Van Gogh lived on the same street as the Roulins in Arles, France. However, it is believed that Madame Roulin never cared for or felt comfortable around Van Gogh. The original of this oil on canvas is now at the Stedelijk or Municipal Museum in Amsterdam.
