An archival premium Quality Art Print of the Yellow Oak by Redoute for sale by Brandywine General Store. The artist finished this hand colored engraving for the book, North America Sylva with the first English edition being copyrighted in 1817. The author of this extensive study of the trees in North America was Francois Andre Michaux with many illustrations by the French Botanical Artist Henri Joseph Redoute. The Yellow Oak was described thus in North America Sylva. The banks of the Delaware is the Northern limit of this tree and it scarcely exists in the Southern States. It is more common in the Middle and Western States but is still rare in comparison with other trees in the same forests. The acorns are sweeter than any other oak species. A fine tree growing to a height of 70 to 80 feet. The wood is yellowish and with less strength and durability of other oaks, because of this and the tree's scarcity, there is no commercial use of the tree in the United States. However, its agreeable form and beautiful foliage render it proper for picturesque gardens. Quercus Pus Acuminata. Botanical art print #101
