Our historic civil war artwork features the small statue of Birney on the right side of the large PA monument. Major General Birney commanded the 3rd Corps of the Army of the Potomac during the Battle of Gettysburg. He was a Philadelphia attorney and was the son of an abolitionist newspaper editor.
