Our historic civil war artwork features the memorial with the fields which would have been full of charging Confederate soldiers in the background. Captain William A. Arnold was a bookkeeper from Providence who led the Battery A 1st Rhode Island light artillery during the battle of Gettysburg. The unit had 139 men and six 3 inch ordnance rifles.
