Church, Frederic Edwin - Rainy Day in the Tropics Fine Art Print
An archival premium Quality art Print of Rainy Day in the Tropics by Frederic Edwin Church for sale by Brandywine General Store. The artist painted this oil on canvas in the year 1866 with the original measuring 56 by 84 inches in size and now hanging at the Museum of Fine Arts in San Fransisco California. The mountains in the background are the Ecuadoran Andes and occupy most of the painting. The rainy forest in the right corner, shows a scene based on the artists trip to Jamaica the preceding year. Church and his wife took this trip to the tropics due to the fact of losing two of their children in March 0f 1865 within one week of each other because of diptheria. The artist immersed himself in work during this grieving period. The admiration and power of nature is represented by the artist with the rainbow in the middle ground which stretches across the sky to connect the landscapes together. It is a creation of nature, like a miracle, after a stormy day and brightens the painting with plenty of color. Famous Artists print #91
