Deakin, Edwin - The Palace of Fine Arts Fine Art Print

An archival premium Quality art Print of The Palace of Fine Arts by Edwin Deakin for sale by Brandywine General Store. The artist finished this canvas in the year 1915 with the original size being 32 by 48 inches and now hangs in the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento California. This Old World Looking Building was constructed in the Marina District of San Fransisco especially for the 1915 Panama Pacific Exposition in order to exhibit works of art presented there. This is the only building from Exposition that is still existing on its original site. A couple other buildings still survive but have been moved to other locations. This palace was so beloved by the city and the state of California, a preservation league was founded while the fair was still in progress, headed by Phoebe Apperson Hearst and is the reason this classic architecture is still surviving. Since the building was built for only temporary use during the Expo, it was deteriorating badly so it was completely rebuilt in 1965 and the lagoon, walkways and a seismic retrofit were all completed in early 2009, to make this a permanent building instead of temporary structure as originally constructed. The palace of fine arts was constructed by Bernard Maybeck who took this design from Roman and Greek architecture to make this look like a fictional ruin from another era. This entire structure was built around a small artificial lagoon and is composed of a wide 1,100 feet pergola around a central rotunda close to the water so the design can be reflected in the pool.
