Landseer, Edwin - Monarch of the Glen Art Print

An archival premium Quality Art Print of Monarch of the Glen by Sir Edwin Landseer which he painted in the year 1851 for sale by Brandywine General Store. Landseer painted this huge buck deer based on studies of stags based on those had had seen on the trips he had been making to the Scottish Highlands since 1824. Landseer received a national commission to paint three subjects connected with the Chase for the refreshment rooms of the House of Lords, of which Monarch of the Glen was one. However once Sir Landseer completed these 3 paintings, the House of Commons refused to pay the 150 pounds they had originally promised for the commission and as a result, the paintings were sold to private collectors. Monarch of the Glen was eventually purchased by Pears soap company and was featured in their advertising for years, later it was sold to John Dewar and Sons distillery and became their trademark, then later used by Glenfiddich. The logo of The Hartford Financial Services, a US insurance company, is taken directly from this painting as is that of Exmoor Ales. Nestle Waters North America Deer Park spring water also uses a variant of this image for their logo. This oil on canvas is currently a part of the Diageo collection and is now on display in the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. The scene shows a huge buck deer with a award winning rack of horns standing and posed for the artist while a mist and heavy fog swirls all around.
