Pannini, Giovanni Paolo - Picture Gallery with Views of Modern Rome Art Print
An archival premium Quality Art Print of a Picture Gallery with Views of Modern Rome by Giovanni Paolo Pannini for sale by Brandywine General Store. The artist finished this oil on canvas in the year 1757 with the original size being 67 by 96 inches and now hangs in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. This work was an extravagant souvenir that was commissioned by the Duc de Choiseul to commemorate his stay in Rome as the French Ambassador to the Vatican. Pannini depicts the Duke seated in a fantastic art gallery surrounded by sculptures by Michelangelo and Bernini. All around him hang the meticulously detailed images by Pannini of Roman Buildings, fountains and monuments of the 17th and 18th centuries including Saint Peters Square, The Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. This was quite a souvenir for the Duke who served as Ambassador to the Vatican from 1753 thru 1757. Old Masters art print #56
