Park Linton - Flax Scutching Bee Folk Art Print
An archival premium Quality Art Print of Flax Scutching Bee painted by American folk artist Linton Park in 1885 for sale by Brandywine General Store. The artist sold this painting for ten dollars. The medium used was oil on bed ticking, an unusual canvas on which to paint. Scutching is the process of dressing the flax and getting rid of the impurities to get it ready for spinning into cloth. In the early days of rural America, parties or bees would be held where the neighbors would all get together to do the scutching and have a good time while doing their work. Folk art print #46
