Paxson Edgar Samuel - Buffalo Hunt art print
An archival premium Quality art Print of The Buffalo Hunt painted by Edgar Samuel Paxson in 1905 for sale by Brandywine General Store. This original Wild West Themed oil on canvas measured 26 by 38 inches in size and was painted by the artist in the year 1905. It now hangs in the Whitney Gallery of Western Art Collection by gift of Mr and Mrs Ernest J. Goppert Sr. This wild west themed picture shows a man on horse holding his rifle, there are dead buffalo in the background of the picture with other hunters, but it looks like this hunter is in trouble. The buffalo has decided it has nothing to lose so when the large animal gets cornered at the creek, it turns and is now chasing the hunter. Tall mountains are in the background providing a beautiful backdrop to the picture. Buffalo Hunt was not the original name for this painting by the artist, in a June 23, 1905 diary entry Paxson writes "I began working on a new oil today called Turning the Worm about a buffalo hunt where the buffalo has turned on the hunter. In a later diary entry of November 24, 1905 Paxson states that he has finished the painting called When he is Bad, but then as a fourth title, on the back of the canvas is written When he is Mad. So who know how this picture simply became known as the Buffalo Hunt. Paxson is best known for his painting of Custer's Last Stand which is now in the Buffalo Bill Center of the West.
