Titian - Salome with the Head of John the Baptist Art Print
An archival premium Quality Art Print of Salome with the Head of John the Baptist painted by Titian around 1500 for sale by Brandywine General Store. The original size of this oil on canvas is 87 by 80 centimeters and now resides in the Prado Museum in Madrid Spain. Salome was the daughter of Herodias and step daughter of Herod. In the old Testament Salome had done seductive dancing for Herod, it was said that Herod would pay her anything for her dance, so she requested the head of John the Baptist. John had criticized the marriage of her mother to Herod, when Salome received the head of John the Baptist, she presented it to her mother on a silver platter. Salome is credited for inventing the seductive dance of the Seven Veils. In this artwork, Titian used his own daughter for the model on which to paint Salome. The composition focuses on Salome who is brightly lit, relegating the head of Saint John to the middle background. Religious art print #18
