Van Gogh Vincent - Irises Art Print
An archival premium Quality art Print of Irises by Vincent Van Gogh for sale by Brandywine General Store. The artist painted this oil on canvas in the year 1889 while at the asylum in St. Remy France. The original artwork measures 38 by 37 inches in size and is now at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles California, it was first known as Les Iris. The first owner of this painting was French art critic Octave Mirbea who was one of the Van Gogh's first supporters, he paid the princely sum of 300 francs or around 320.00. Fast forward almost 100 years to the year 1987 and this painting brought the most money of any artwork in the history of the World, being sold for 53.9 million dollars. Van Gogh was inspired by the gardens and nature around St. Remy and within one week of being admitted to the asylum, he began work on Irises. There are no known drawing or sketches of irises because Van Gogh did not consider this as one of his masterpieces but rather a study, now it is one of the best known artworks known to Man. The scene shows a stand of purple irises in full bloom with one solitary white iris at the left, while in behind the irises are yellow flowers of some kind. Famous artists print #93
