This oil on canvas was painted by the artist in June 1888 showing fishing boats out in the sea and is now located at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. Van Gogh wrote about this painting "The Mediterranean Sea is a mackeral color, in other words, changeable. You do not always know whether it is green or purple, you do not always know it is blue, as the next moment the ever changing sheen has assumed a pink or gray tint." This scene shows the village fishing boats returning home after a day of fishing. Van Gogh painted this canvas outdoors and in the original canvas are specks of sand that flew into the paints as he was painting the picture. Famous artists print #50
