Van Gogh, Vincent - The Rocks Art Print
An archival premium Quality Art Print of The Rocks by Vincent Van Gogh for sale by Brandywine General Store. The artist finished this oil on canvas in 1888, the original size was 22 by 26 inches and now resides at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston. The scene depicts a specific area in the South of France called Montmajour, a rocky terrain located just North of Arles. Painting on site was a struggle for Van Gogh because the fierce winds so common to this area, kept blowing away his canvases as he was working. His manic and forceful markings of the paint combined with his broad exploitation of the blues, greens and yellows makes an exceedingly lively image that is strictly his own. Brother Theo was so taken by this image that he immediately had it framed and hung it beside "The Sower" one of Van Gogh's undisputed masterpieces.
