An archival premium Quality Art Print of The Anointing of David by Paolo Veronese for sale by Brandywine General Store. The artist finished this Religious artwork in the year 1555. The painting portrays the scene as told in the Old Testament in the Book of Samuel Chapter 16. Samuel has been sent to see Jesse and his sons in Bethlehem to anoint a new successor for Saul, who had fallen from favor with the Lord from being King of Israel. God told Samuel that one of Jesse's sons was to be the new King. In order to hide his true intentions, as he was afraid of Saul, Samuel was ordered to take a young cow with him and to invite Jesse and his sons to a sacrifice to God. Jesse paraded his seven sons before Samuel, but at each one, God let Samuel know that none of these were the chosen ones. After the last son has went thru the line in front of Saul, he asks Jesse if this is all the sons he has. Jesse says that his youngest son David, is out tending the sheep. Jesse was ordered to fetch the shepherd boy, David to come before Saul. When he finally arrived, Saul said this was the one, then he proceeds to anoint David as the future King of Israel.
