Vuillard Edouard - The Candlestick Art Print
An archival premium Quality Art Print of The Candlestick by Edouard Vuillard for sale by Brandywine General Store. This oil on millboard was completed by the artist in 1900 with the original painting measuring 17 by 30 inches in size and now resides at the National Gallery of Scotland. This painting shows Vuillard's obsession with pattern and texture as evidenced in the tablecloth and wall paper. He often painted with a dry, sticky type of paint called "colle" using a soft brown cardboard. He would frequently leave some parts of his board or canvas unpainted to form a neutral tone as can be seen in the bottom right area of this picture. The scene is simple, showing a candlestick along with a vase with a flowers which is most likely a rose and a saddlebag or Doctor's bag hanging over the arrangement. This probably comes from the artist's apartment in which he would frequently find his subjects to paint. Famous artists print #87
