During the War of 1812 the British forces attacked the city of Baltimore and Fort McHenry. Francis Scott Key, a lawyer and poet, was being held under British Guard on a ship in the Patapsco River during the night of the bombardment of Fort McHenry on September 13. Upon arising the following morning he saw the United States flag still flying proudly over the Fort and he was moved to pen our National Anthem, The Star Spangled Banner. The picture on this quarter shows the Fort McHenry site on the annual Defender's Day celebration with the fireworks bright light over the scene. Brandywine General Store has more than one 2013-S Fort McHenry Quarters available for sale in the 70 grade so you might receive a different PCGS certification number.
