Cattails at Spruce Knob Lake Art Print
A Museum Quality Art Print of Cattails at Spruce Knob Lake showing a large stand of cattails at the edge of the water and beyond is the mountain which still shows some late fall colors. A scenic archival photographic art print by Brandywine General Store. Cattails are one of the most common plants seen in wetlands, they can grow to a height of ten feet in ponds, lakes, rivers, marshes and even ditches which stay wet. They provide a lot of cover for wildlife, the red winged blackbird builds their nest in them, the cattails also provide cover for water fowl such as the mallard duck and Canadian Geese, frogs and salamanders nest in between the stalks and lay their eggs. Many birds use the fluff from the seed heads to line their nests. However the cattail spreads its rhizomes or roots very quickly and can become a problem as they get very thick and can take over.
