Independence, CA - Inyo County Courthouse Art Print
A Museum Quality Print of the Inyo County Courthouse in Independence, California for sale by Brandywine General Store. This seat of county government was designed by architect William H. Weeks and built in the Classical Revival style in 1921. This elaborately designed courthouse represents the peak of local autonomy in the Owens Valley, soon after the building of this structure, the city of Los Angeles began purchasing the majority of the land in the valley including most of the land in the county seat as well. Water policies developed by the city of Los Angeles after 1924 led to the destruction of irrigated farming and thus the virtual depopulation of the entire Owens Valley. Picture #166
