A 2005-S Jefferson Bison Nickel which has been certified as being perfect by PCGS at Proof 70 Deep Cameo. As of this listing only 1,083 of these five cent pieces have been good enough to earn the distinction of a perfect 70 grade by PCGS and is suitable for the registry sets. The Jefferson Buffalo or Bison nickel is part of the Westward Journey series of Nickels issued by the mint to commemorate the bicentennial of the Lewis and Clark expedition into the new vast lands of the Louisiana Purchase. The Buffalo on this nickel was made to signify the importance of this animal to the Indians and the western way of life. It also was supposed to represent the old Buffalo nickel which was minted in the earlier part of the last century.
