Avercamp, Hendrick - Kolf Players on Ice Art Print
A Museum Quality Art Print of Kolf Players on Ice by Hendrick Avercamp. The artist finished this artwork in the year 1625 with the original now hanging in the Houston Museum of Fine Arts in Texas. Kolf was the original name of golf, the term kolf was being used as early as the 12th century by the Dutch. Historians think this was their word for club at the time. By the 15th century the Scottish were championing this game and had changed the pronunciation from the Dutch "kolf" to to "goff" or "gouff". The Scottish people also gave this game the more modern rules and it was transformed into the golf game that we know today. Hendrick Avercamp was a famous painter of contemporary Dutch winter scenes.
