Monsignor Tiberio Cerasi commissioned this painting for the Cerasi Chapel in Santa Maria del Popolo in Rome. Caravaggio shows three Romans struggling and pulling at the cross on which Saint Peter is nailed to by the hands and feet with his head pointed down.
