This gorge was carved out by Ruth's Glacier, the upper part of this gorge is only 3 miles below the summit of Mount McKinley. The gorge is 1 mile wide and drops almost 2,000 feet in a 10 mile stretch. Above the surface on both sides are 5,000 feet granite cliffs.
