Our archival historical civil war artwork features a close view of the large monument of General George Meade on Old Baldy, his favorite horse he mainly rode throughout the Civil War. When the Civil War began, Meade was commander of a group of Pennsylvania Volunteers who were sent to DC to help in the construction of defenses of the Capitol City. Shortly before the Battle of Gettysburg, Lincoln promoted Meade to the leader of the Army of the Potomac.
