Guernsey Amaryllis Botanical Art Print

The artwork was originally published in the Curtis Botanical Magazine, Volume 9 on March 01, 1795. An art print showing a large red Guernsey Amaryllis with a single flower stem which is in full bloom and green leaves showing at the bottom of the picture. The Guernsey Amaryllis was described thus - This plant was originally native to Japan. It came to the island of Guernsey literally by accident, supposedly in the 17th century, a Dutch or English ship, it is uncertain of which nationality, was coming from Japan with several of these roots on board, the ship wrecked on the island and the force of the wind and waves, soon buried the amaryllis roots under the sand, where they remained. Some years later, to the surprise and admiration of the island inhabitants the flowers appeared in all their pomp and beauty. Amaryllis Samiensis. Botanical art print #19
